Volleyball WA is thrilled to share the exciting news of the recent grant approvals received, which will significantly contribute to the advancement of volleyball, healthy living, and inclusive participation across Western Australia. Our dedicated team has worked tirelessly to secure these grants that will play a pivotal role in supporting various projects and initiatives aimed at fostering growth and development within the community.
Asian Engagement Through Sport Strategy
One of the notable grants secured is the Department of Local Government and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) Asian Engagement Through Sport Strategy grant, a three-year project grant totalling $140,000. This strategy focuses on promoting international relationships, mutual development opportunities, and cultural exchange through volleyball. By establishing strong partnerships with volleyball organizations in several Asian countries, including India, Indonesia, Japan, Vietnam, and others, Volleyball WA aims to create a platform for collaboration and growth. The strategy highlights the commitment to inclusivity, accessibility, and community well-being, with a focus on elevating the standard of volleyball both locally and internationally.
Women’s National League Teams Grant
Another significant grant approval from DLGSC is the Three-Year Project Grant of $300,000 to support Women’s National League Teams. This funding will play a crucial role in sustaining the Perth Steel Women’s Team, enhancing pathways for women in high-performance sports, and establishing financial models to support team operations. Additionally, it aims to reduce the financial burden on athletes participating at the high-performance level, ensuring a more inclusive and supportive environment for women in sports.
City Grants and Collaborative Agreements
In addition to the project grants, Volleyball WA has also been awarded grants and in-kind allocations from various city councils and collaborative partnerships. The City of Busselton has provided a Cash Allocation Grant of $2500 and an In-kind allocation of up to $500 for ATABT in March 2025. Moreover, the ongoing agreement between the City of Bunbury and Volleyball WA, facilitated through Sports Marketing Australia, ensures funding of $5000 for the years 2024/2025 and 2026, further strengthening the support for sports initiatives in the region.
Sport and Recreation Inclusive Participation Grants Program
The DLGSC Sport and Recreation Inclusive Participation Grants Program has awarded Volleyball WA with a substantial grant of $300,000 to support the Adaptive Volley initiative over a three-year project. This project aims to enhance accessibility to volleyball for individuals living with disabilities, offering programs such as standing or sitting volleyball in a fun and inclusive environment. By expanding the Adaptive Volley initiative, Volleyball WA is committed to making sports more accessible and inclusive for all members of the community.
Regional Servicing
Furthermore, VWA has continued to service the regions through the most recent DLGSC Active Regional Communities Grants of $4,823 supporting the Pilbara Development Trip to Tom Price, including various activities such as school clinics, coaching workshops, referee workshops, teacher professional developments, and a junior clinic. This type of initiative underscores the commitment to promoting sports and active lifestyles in regional communities, fostering growth and engagement among participants.
In the 2023/2024 financial year VWA also conducted development visits to Christmas and Cocos Islands, Pilbara, Mid-West, and Great Southern. The Australian Government and DLGSC supported these visits. Through our annual DLGSC Regional Servicing grant we also continue to employ Regional Development Coordinators in the Peel and Southwest regions and manage the delivery of services to the Great Southern region. We will restructure our regional delivery team in the 24/25 financial year to have more workforce dedicated to servicing the regions across WA.
In conclusion, these grant approvals signify a significant milestone in the ongoing journey of Volleyball WA towards promoting volleyball, healthy living, and inclusion within the community. Volleyball WA CEO, Robyn Kuhl understands the importance of these grants for the growth of volleyball and said about the recent approvals “The support received will not only enhance the sport of volleyball but also contribute to building a more inclusive and supportive environment for all participants. Volleyball WA looks forward to leveraging these grants to achieve its goals and make a lasting impact on the community.”
