Since its inception in 1985, the Games have occurred every four years, apart from the 2021 Kansai Games, which were rescheduled to 2027 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2025, the Games were an extraordinary celebration of sportsmanship and camaraderie, held under the themes “We share the same sky” and “Sports beyond Age, Life without Limits.” The opening ceremony at the bustling Taipei Dome was officiated by IMGA President and sporting legend Sergii Bubka.

Volleyball stood out among the events, with competitions spanning two weeks and utilising four venues across Taipei City and New Taipei City. The participation was robust, with Volleyball WA sending 39 past or current players to compete in 16 events across 18 teams, including indoor and beach volleyball. Their impressive performance resulted in an impressive medal haul of 7 Gold, 15 Silver, and 15 Bronze medals. These athletes not only excelled on the court but also embodied the “We share the same sky” mission, becoming favourites among fellow competitors and volunteers.
