A New Year and Some New Faces at Volleyball WA

We’re very pleased to announce we have a couple of fresh new faces in the office as 2022 begins!

These new team members will certainly help Volleyball WA continue to drive the growth of the game into schools and our venues and support the youth in our sport reach their competitive goals.

You’ll meet each of the appointees through our events, programs, and office activities soon. Please make them feel welcome!

Desiree Tan – Youth Pathways Coordinator

Desiree might be familiar to many of you already as she has been an active member of our player community and held several roles including coach and referee. She is joining the recently created Pathways Team which includes Jackie Tamburri as Pathways & Events Manager and Greg Hunt Competitions Coordinator. Prior to starting here, Desiree had a role at Cockburn ARC, where she helped manage the senior and junior volleyball social competitions and other sports.

She brings to the role a broad range of professional skills and experience which will certainly support her success as Youth Pathways Coordinator.

What she is looking forward to most is making a meaningful impact on the growth and development of the VWA state team program, by fostering and maintaining a passion for success and participation within the athletes.  She is hoping to focus on encouraging a greater portfolio of athletes trialling for the state program, and developing their skills to the highest level to encourage movement onto the high-performance pathway, at a senior and national level. She is also aiming to continue developing positive and collaborative relationships with the parent network and athletes, to encourage retention and a positive and memorable experience for all.

One thing you might not know about Desiree is she has played volleyball in 6 different countries as a kid growing up!

Christopher Lloyd – Schools Coordinator

Quick to settle in already, Christopher has already become known around the office as Chris so it seems like he will bringing some additional fun to the office.

Chris is joining our Participation Team from Australian Sailing. Based here in Perth he was the Club Services Officer supporting the Clubs around the state. Prior to that, he worked in participation and development roles at WA Cricket and the Western Australian Football Commission specifically in a school’s role making him the ideal candidate for the position here at VWA.

Over the next 6 – 12 months, Chris is looking forward to getting familiar with the game, his role as Schools Coordinator, his fellow team members and the Volleyball community in general.  His key focus is to ensure that Volleyball continues to have a strong presence in schools encouraging school participants to become club participants in the future.
