2018 WA Schools Cup – Recap

The WA Schools Cup is the state’s biggest school volleyball competition and in 2018 this was no exception. With a total of 177 teams competing, the race to see which school would take home the title was a tight one.

The competition started with the year 11 and 12 age groups battling it out across two venues with 65 teams playing, an increase of four teams from 2017. The finals did not disappoint with both Open Honour divisions going the full five sets. Aquinas collected the win over Rossmoyne SHS in the boys competition, while in the girls competitions Rossmoyne SHS claimed the title over Mercedes.

The year 7-10 competition was not to be outdone with 112 taking part this year, eight more than 2017. The Rossmoyne SHS girls backed up the year 11 and 12 performance with a win in the year 10 honour division, while Perth Modern won the boys year 10 honour division.

At the conclusion of both events, Aquinas College was awarded Champion Boy School, while Rossmoyne SHS went home with both Champion Girls School and the Presidents Cup for Top School.

Overall it was a great five days of competition with a number of new schools participating. The winning teams will now prepare for the 2018 Australian Volleyball Schools Cup set for Melbourne from the 9th to the 14th of December. Thank you to all the schools who competed in 2018, it was a great competition that was played in fantastic spirit.
