The 2013 AVL season was always going to be an exciting and intense prospect for all involved this season. New coaches, and the first time that a club (Northern Stars Volleyball Club) has represented The WA Hornets in the AVL.
We had only a very short preparation time and with injuries to Jayson Fox, Mark Van Winsen, Casey Grice and the absence of Andrew Clinch and Cole Durant for much of the season, resulted in 17 players being used on court. The fact that we were very competitive in all games and almost made the finals, is testament to the players who finished off the season, their professionalism and dedication to the game. The boys can be proud of their efforts.
We had a good season winning games against all opponents apart from Queensland and the AIS. We had to wait until the final day of the competition to see if results would fall our way. Unfortunately, we missed the finals by a point, even thought we had won more games than VVA who eventually finished 4th.
Thanks to VWA and the amazing committee of the Northern Stars as none of this season would have been possible without your efforts. Thank you also to RTWS – Return to Work Solutions our sponsor for their greatly appreciated contribution to our 2013 season.
Congratulations must also go out to the WA Pearls, who are playing in the AVL Grand Finals on the 7th and 8th December 2013.
