WA Teams Complete Historic AVL Season

Championship Medals on the Radar as WA Heads to the AVL Finals

The Volleyball WA Pearls and Hornets have completed the final round of the Australian Volleyball League Southern Conference, capping off a highly successful 2017 season. Both squads sent a message to the competition, with the Hornets ending their season with ten wins from twelve matches, and the Pearls finishing with nine from twelve. The highlight of the season came at the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre when the Pearls defeated the reigning premiers, Uni Blues in both matches. This ended the longest winning streak in AVL history, with the Blues’ last defeat coming in December 2014. The Pearls’ historic performance was followed by two entertaining and spectacular matches between the Hornets and Uni Blues, with both matches running five sets.

Both the Pearls and Hornets now look to the AVL Finals in Melbourne on December 2 and 3 with the Hornets in first place in the Southern Conference and the Pearls in second, just one win and two points behind Uni Blues.
