The WA Open will be Packed with Local Talent

The WA Open returns to Scarborough Beach once again in 2021. This is the pinnacle beach volleyball event in WA where we’ll find out who is the ‘best in the west’ on the sand!

Recent travel restrictions mean that the 2021 event is almost certain to be an all West Australian affair, and several local competitors have shown strong form in the lead up. In the Elite male division, Daniel Piggott has won two out of the three competitions this season, and collected silver in the other event.  Shelby Maher remains undefeated on the Women’s beach tour since November 2019, having  won all 3 competitions in the 2020/2021 season and all 6 competitions that she attended in the 2019/2020 season.

Of course, both the Men’s and Women’s Elite divisions have been really competitive so far this season, and with prize money on the line, the finals are always very exciting to watch!

Western Australia’s Best Beach Setting for Volleyball?

“There are many contenders for WA’s best beach, but it’s perhaps Scarborough Beach that provides the perfect amphitheatre and show court for both competitors and spectators” says Volleyball WA’s CEO Robyn Kuhl.

Presenting sponsor the City of Stirling couldn’t agree more. City of Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin said the City was proud to be sponsoring the event.  “Summer at Scarborough Beach is always packed with events and 2021 is no exception, whether it’s the Sunset Markets every Thursday,  Fringe Festival events at the Scarborough Pavilion or a range of other community and family friendly events. We love having the state’s best beach volleyballers join us every summer to decide the title and we’re excited for another great event.”

Alcohol. Think Again, through Healthway, returns as naming rights sponsor of the WA Open with the intent to raise awareness and provide education about responsible service and safe consumption of alcohol in the WA community. “The scene that surrounds volleyball in our community is such a positive example of a healthy and active lifestyle,” said Healthway Director of Health Promotion Julia Knapton. “Healthway is once again proud to partner with Volleyball WA to present this event though the Alcohol. Think Again message.”

Bring the Family Along!

This year there will also see a dedicated area for activities for the family and spectators. Presented by Healthway, the Alcohol. Think Again Family Zone will include the opportunity to ‘come and try’ volleyball and other fun activities, as well as prizes and give-aways on Sunday morning between 10am and 1pm.

So, come on down to get involved in one of Western Australia’s fastest growing sports! With a perfect mix of competition and fun, the Alcohol. Think Again WA Open is a perfect opportunity to see what all the fuss is about.
